On Friday,
participants of the commemorative tour "Final Journey of T.H.Shevchenko" arrived to the border town of Hlukhiv (Sumy region). Mykola Tomenko, Deputy Chairman of
The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, met the delegation of the parliament members on
the Ukrainian border.
Mykola Tomenko stated that it is of great significance that Russia and Kazakhstan joined commemoration of Taras Shevchenko. "Today we have an opportunity to discover new poems of the Great Kobzar not only in Ukraine, but also in Russia, where Taras Shevchenko was acquainted with the Russian intellectuals and public figures. He was in exile in Kazakhstan, having befriended a great many ordinary people, whom he described in his works."
M.Tomenko expressed his sincere gratitude to the participants of the commemorative tour, especially descendants of the Great Kobzar, People´s Deputies of Ukraine, and representatives of Russia and Kazakhstan.
The delegation attended the requiem mass in Hlukhiv. The honourable guests also visited Hlukhiv National Reserve to meet the municipal officials.
Then the delegation will head to the towns of Krolevets and Baturyn.
As reported, the tour "Final Journey of T.H.Shevchenko" dedicated to the 150th anniversary of reburial of the Great Kobzar is held in Ukraine and the Russian Federation on May 14-23. The events are organized under the patronage of the Inter-Parliamentary Assembly of CIS member states.
The delegation of parliament members of Ukraine, Russia and Kazakhstan will follow the itinerary of the funeral procession with the body of the Great Kobzar in the year 1861.
